Hardwork behind one plate of food

I had a pleasure of visiting a small village called Silluvaipuram in the district of Chidambaram through the outreach program in my college. A whole of one weeks stay in the place opened my eyes to various thing I still carry with me is the amount of work that goes behind every plate of food we eat today. The lives of those who provide us the life giving food is indeed, pathetic not only their lives but the state of farming is also very drastic indeed people have turned to chemicals instead of natural resources in order to get more yield so in turn they can earn much. This has reduced the quality of the soil very  much. The people indeed cannot be blamed because they are under so much debt that had to be paid off. They depend on the produce year and year again to breath the next easily. Their situation is so sad that they do not even have a handful of their produce to have for themselves. It is depressing and sad to see such hardworking people suffer yet do not get to enjoy even a small of their sacrifice. The big question remains though who is to blame, the rise in food prices, loss of fertile lands, loans or the infusion of the chemicals. Whatever it maybe it is high time we took the matter of farmers and farming seriously.
